KS1 RE - Special Words and Stories - Personal Beliefs!
In this engaging and important lesson, students explore the concepts of facts and beliefs. They discover how people have many different beliefs, and that Christians believe the words and stories of the Bible. They explore the Easter Story, recognising that there are elements of religious stories such as this that require faith and belief.
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Reflecting on and recalling knowledge that they already have of the Bible;
-Defining the key terms ‘fact’ and ‘belief’ and differentiating between the two;
-Understanding that the Bible is the text that forms of the basis of Christian beliefs, and watching a Bible story about Jesus’ death and resurrection;
-Discussing how some elements of the Easter story cannot be proven to be true, but are widely-held Christian beliefs;
-Completing a creative, extended learning activity based on designing Easter Gardens.
-Self-reflecting on the extent to which they feel they have met the learning objective.

They watch and listen to the story of Queen Esther, consider what makes the story so special to Jews, and also begin to think about the items and traditions in their own lives that they consider special.

In this engaging and informative lesson, students gain a clear understanding of the Guru Granth Sahib. They learn about how the holy book is treated and used by Sikhs, and they also learn about how it relates to the teachings and songs of Guru Nanak.

RE - Islam - Makkah and the Ka'aba!
In this engaging and comprehensive lesson, students are introduced to the city of Makkah and the Ka’aba - holy places in the religion of Islam. They explore:
-Where Makkah is and why it is a special place in Islam;
-What and where the Ka’aba is, and how it is visited by pilgrims;
-The story of Muhammad purifying the Ka’aba.
Students learn through recalling prior knowledge, understanding new knowledge (presented in an engaging format using pictures and bullet points) and answering questions about what they have learnt. They also piece together the different sections of the story of Muhammad and the Ka’aba.
The lesson is tried and tested, and is easy for teachers and students to follow. It contains a comprehensive 17-slide Powerpoint which offers a step-by-step guide throughout the lesson. It also includes the ‘mixed-up’ story of Muhammad and the Ka’aba on a separate sheet, and an answer sheet for teachers. Challenge activities are provided in order to enrich learning for higher-attaining learners.

In this engaging and comprehensive lesson, students are introduced to the main features of mosques. They learn the names and purposes of a number of different features of mosques, including minarets, domes, prayer halls, and mihrabs.
Children learn through collating their collective prior knowledge, accessing an engaging interactive online resource (hyperlinked) where they can explore a mosque, and recording the key information. They conclude by comparing the features of mosques with what they know about churches.
The lesson is tried and tested, and is easy for teachers and students to follow. It contains a comprehensive 15-slide Powerpoint which offers a step-by-step guide throughout the lesson. Challenge activities are provided in order to enrich learning for higher-attaining learners.

In this engaging lesson, students read and interpret ‘The Parable of the Lost Son’ (also known as the Parable of the Prodigal Son).

Creativity - Collective Worship Session!
This fun and original collective worship session assists children in understanding the value of being creative in all of their endeavours, through:
Understanding what creativity is, and recognising why it is such an important skill;
Recognising God’s creativity and understanding how creativity is a trait within everyone (including themselves);
Observing some amazing examples of the successes that creativity can catalyse;
Learning strategies to demonstrate creativity in their own lives.
This worship session is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. The session also includes a short video and discussion focusing on the Genesis section of the bible detailing God’s creation of the world and its creatures.
The session also includes a fun interactive activity, a wonderful, thought-provoking video about the importance of creation, and various discussion activities regarding how to show creation in different areas of their own lives.
The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included two pages of notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

The Nativity Story - Whole Class Reading Session!
This informative and engaging whole class reading session deepens children’s understanding of the Nativity Story, whilst also developing vital reading comprehension skills such as retrieving, interpreting, inferring and sequencing. I have used these resources as an adaptation to our usual whole class reading provision throughout the lead-up to Christmas.
The resource pack includes the link to the version of the story needed, which is most suitable for children in lower KS2 (although some higher attaining KS1 children may also be able to access it successfully).
This is followed by a series of activities aiming to develop children’s retrieval, explanation, inference, prediction and summarising skills. It also contains a vocabulary check immediately after the extract is read to clarify any unfamiliar/ difficult language.
The tasks are comprised of quick-check questions, solo thinking, pair/ group discussions and deeper thinking activities.
The resources have been received well by teachers and children, with a number of collegues choosing to split the content over two sessions.

The Ten Plagues of Egypt - Lesson!
In this engaging lesson, students develop their understanding of Moses, through learning about the ten plagues of Egypt. They are encouraged to think deeply about the meanings that can be taken from the story, and consider ideas such as punishment and God’s power.
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Knowledge recall - gauging children’s prior knowledge of Judaism - including Jewish persecution in Egypt and Moses’ early life;
-Watching an engaging, age-appropriate video about the ten plagues, and attempting to recall them all ;
-Considering the severity of each of the plagues, and discussing some of the moral and ethical implications of the story;
-Considering their own attitudes towards the ideas presented in the story;
-Writing a newspaper report about the plagues from the perspective of an imaginary Egyptian journalist, using the provided newspaper template;

In this engaging lesson, students develop their understanding of the roles of vicars. They consider their routines and actions, and how vicars live their daily lives. It is great as a standalone lesson, or as a part of a unit on ‘special ways of living.’
The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey:
-Thinking about the definition of a vicar (and how this differs from the more general definition of a priest;
-Introducing children to the daily life of vicars, including discussing their many roles and responsibilities, through watching an interesting and age-appropriate video;

-Completing a storyboard (using a provided template) to show the daily routine of vicars;
-Learning about the different clothes worn by vicars, before drawing and labelling a vicar in uniform;
